This past week, news broke that Strikeforce and Showtime would be canceling their upcoming card due to an injury suffered by headliner and champ Gilbert Melendez.

The lightweight title holder was forced to drop out of a bout with Pat Healy after suffering a separated shoulder during training.  This marked the second time this month that a Zuffa owned promotion had to completely cancel an event, previously dropping its UFC 151 card when challenger Dan Henderson caught the injury bug and was unable to face champ Jon Jones.

In the wake of the recent cancellation, fans were in an uproar, some even calling for the end of Strikeforce all-together.

Check out my detailed breakdown of the aftermath on Storify where I talk about everything from fan and fighter reactions to the latest news on how Strikeforce will be compensating the other fighters on the card.
