New England Fights! (NEF) recently annouced via a press release that the promotion’s first event of 2013 will be headlined by a major light-heavyweight title fight.

Fight Night VI will feature a main event championship battle between Jesse Peterson (7-2) and Greg Rebello (14-5) for the inaugural Maine State MMA Light-Heavyweight Championship.  The show is scheduled for Saturday, February 2nd and will take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, ME.

“In 2012, Maine fans of combat sports came to expect only the best matchups from New England Fights,” NEF promoter and co-owner Nick DiSalvo said in the press release. “With the announcement of Peterson-Rebello for the 205-pound belt, rest assured that we are seeking to continue that tradition of high-quality competition by bringing in two of the best regional fighters in the Northeast.”

You can’t really argue with that as NEF has put on some of the top shows in the region over the past year.  This title fight between eight-year MMA vet and top-three ranked Northeast 205er Rebello and current Maine State Middleweight champ Peterson will definitely be a great main event to kick off 2013.

The card also features a flyweight battle between Ernesto Ornelas (0-2) of Choi’s and Kody Nordby (1-0) of Allaire.  No other match-ups have been announced yet, but be sure to check back as more fights are added to the card.
