New England mixed martial arts fans rejoice!
MMAJunkie.com is reporting that the UFC is tentatively planning a return trip to Boston some time in 2013.
“We’re definitely coming back to Boston,” UFC President Dana White said Tuesday evening during an online chat sponsored by MetroPCS. “I’ve actually been working on that lately. We’ll definitely come to Boston next year, in ’13.”
This is huge news for New England fans who last saw the world’s largest MMA promotion visit Boston at UFC 118 back in 2010. The event, which was held at the TD Garden, featured then-champion Frankie Edgar defend his lightweight title against former champ BJ Penn as well as the sad, sole Octagon appearance of famed boxer James Toney, who was easily submitted by UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.
Hopefully this time around, we won’t be subjected to another farce of a fight like the “Light’s Out” bout.
No word yet as to whether the UFC will also be hosting an expo like the promotion did in 2010. I had a chance to attend the expo when the UFC came to Boston and it was a blast being able to meet the likes of Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and more!
