Twitter has become one of the most revolutionary social media sites in the world for it’s easy access and ability to break news as soon as it happens.
Everyone from politicians and professional athletes to regular citizens are able to tweet the latest news instantaneously – a helpful tool for a journalist.
Much like Twitter, MMA and the rise of the UFC have been relatively new phenomenons that have only come into prominence over the last few years. Twitter has actually become integral to the reporting of news in the MMA world.
Many fighters, industry leaders and MMA media members are active tweeters, with lots of news breaking all the time by important figures like UFC President Dana White and journalist Ariel Helwani. I always try to keep up with their Twitter feeds.
White breaks the conventional notion of a prim and proper head of a sport’s organization, so he often tweets profanities. But he’s also very transparent, always willing to reply directly to fans and always relaying the latest news about upcoming fights, injuries and more.
There are many great MMA news sites and blogs that also have great Twitter feeds that provide accurate news and links to great interviews and other content. I’m especially fond of MMA Junkie, Bloody Elbow and, of course Bleacher Report MMA.
I try to keep up to date with a lot of different fighters as well, as they often will report general MMA happenings as well as updates with their training camps, match-ups and the like. Much like his website, BJ Penn’s Twitter feed is very current with the latest news, as is MMA legend and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pioneer Renzo Gracie.
Gracie recently may have made Twitter history by allegedly tweeting the first live mugging when two men tried to rob him earlier this month. The Brazilian grappling master came out of the incident unscathed as he simultaneously tweeted and subdued the would be robbers, even tweeting pictures of the beaten men.
One of Gracie’s more humorous tweets from when he was walking towards an alley during the alleged attempted robbing was:
JiuJitsu ;-))) never leave home without it 😉 http://t.co/bBJtLtVb—

When I’m looking for straight up funny posts, you can bet I’m looking at the feeds of loudmouth UFC middleweights Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping. Bisping recently posted a hilarious tweet about his upcoming bout with Brian Stann at UFC 152:
I notice Bryan stann thinks sleeping in a tent is gonna help him when we fight! http://t.co/CEGK7g0z—

That’s pretty much it. If you’re a huge MMA fan, make sure to follow these fight feeds as well as that of yours truly at @MattJuulMMA!
